Server 2019 under ESXi 7 bridge does not work

Post by Tasagore » Thu Jun 11, 2020 12:20 pm

Hi

I have a few Softehter installations working perfect, most of them under ESXi 6.7 and Windows 2012 R2 Server. Now I'm configuring a new server Windows 2019 running under ESXi 7, I've made same steps than in the others configurations (enable promiscuous mode in the vSwitch, add a secondary adapter to the VM), but the bridge does not work.

I've made a simple test, if I configure a local IP in the adapter then when I connect with any client (Softether or L2TP) the connection is stablished right, the DHCP assigns a IP to the client, but only pings to the secondary adapter gets response (so the bridge does not work). If I remove the IPv4 protocol in that adapter then I can connect but no IP is assigned from DHCP.

I've compared two installations and the only thing that seems different is that in one of them (ESXi 6.7+Windows 2012R2) Softether shows that is NOT running under a VM, but in the new one (ESXi 7+Windows 2019) Softether shows that IS running under a VM, all the other configurations are same un both servers, routers, ports...

I don't know if this could be related to the Hypervisor or to the Windows 2019, but I've tried a lot of things with no success :(

Any idea?

Seems that ESXi is the problem because I've installed a Win10 with Softether and the bridge still does not work, exactly the same in a ESXi 6.7 works perfect.

I'm going to downgrade the server to v6.7 and will see...

Stupid mistake...I've enabled promiscuous mode en ESXi but not Mac spoofing, with two enabled all works fine.

How do you enable MAC Spoofing on a ESXi?

Edit the Switch on the ESXi server and go to the Security tab and make the change there.

Hi, I am having a tough time getting softether local bridge working on ESXi 6.7 (VM running Windows Server 2016). I have 2 nics, the 2nd nic is dedicated to the bridge segment (a DHCP server is running on that segment). I have tried unchecking (and took the default) protocols on the 2nd nic, as soon as the local bridge is created, it goes offline and stays offline. I have enabled the virtual switch port group to accept promiscuous mode, enabled mac address changes, and forged transmits. Thanks
