Need Help to secure remote VPS connection using SoftEther

Post by Nolo73 » Sun Dec 30, 2018 4:10 pm

Hi,
I am looking for advice in order to create a secure connection between my PC and a remote VPS Windows server 2012R2 (Cloud)
The remote VPS has only one virtual network (Virtio network drivers, and Proxmox as virtual framework), and only one Public IP.
My idea is to use SoftEther to accomplish this project, but I am newbie regarding this type of configurations, and I appreciate any advice can help me.

As configuration I suppose that in my case (just one network card with public IP), I have to follow this tutorial:
https://www.softether.org/4-docs/2-howt ... into_Cloud
But I am not sure if this is the best and only way to create the connection client to site.

Regarding security consideration, my idea is to use certificate ( do I need to use as well password or not?), and for this I need some help (like links, guide, tutorial) to configure it. Another one security consideration is to close all Windows server ports with a soft-firewall, but I am not sure about witch SoftEther ports I will need to leave open.

Any help will be appreciate
thank you for this great project

Hello there! Well it depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you are trying to access the remote machine for only management of that machine or you would like to be connected to the entire remote network. For SE to access incoming connections to need at least on port. By default SE uses 5555. Thus you have to ensure that that port is open and there you go.

Good luck

I think ad-hoc VPN is good for your purpose.

Please set up the VPN server and client on the VPS and connect VPN with VPN client to the VPN server from the VPS and the remote client.
I recommend IP address is assigned statically.
