Version differences of the server

Post by mcgiwer » Tue Dec 27, 2022 1:38 pm

Hello. I had discovered a strange difference in avaliable versions of the server.

Tested on following Operating System (OS):
  • OS: Debian based Linux (antiX)
  • OS version: stable (codename: bullseye)
  • 32/64 bit ?: 64-bit
  • Processor architecture: amd64
  • Package manager: apt
------------------------

Question:
  • on the SoftEther website, the latest avaliable version of it is: 4.41, Build 9782, beta
  • in the APT repository, the latest version it's: 5.01.9674 (never then on website)
Could anyone explain how it's possible ?

SE has two releases
- stable one, latest version at the moment is 4.41
http://www.softether-download.com/files/softether/

- developer edition aka DE which is +5.X on GitHub repository
https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN

You can get and build both of them

Stable 4.41
https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEth ... bit.tar.gz

DE build from source +5.X
https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEth ... LD_UNIX.md

I know that on GitHub is a dev version, but it had suprised me that a version 5.xx (as wrote in previous post) is provided in the APT repository as stable one, so I had decided to ask here

Yes, I have tested this with Debian 11, and version 5.X is installed, why? because they would like to add latest version there.
