SoftEther VPN server on an M1 Mac Mini?

Post by robertjm-RD » Sat Sep 04, 2021 2:14 am

Hi all,

I'm looking for a replacement to the old built-in VPN Server, which Apple pulled out of their Server product as of v5.11.

After looking at several options I came across the SoftEther project and decided to give it a try because the documentation suggests to use the built-in VPN network client if I use IP-SEC. This would mean a seamless change in servers as far as the endusers are concerned.

But, I do have a question. The downloads say they are for OSX, and operating systems listed are up to El Capitan. The new Mini is one of the Apple Silicon based M1 Mac Mini they released last November and running macOS Big Sur.

Supposedly programs written for Intel-based machines are able to run using Rosetta II. But, I'd like to know if others have had any experience in running the server component on the new hardware before I go down that rabbit hole.

Anybody using one of the new machines? If so, how's it going?

Thanks!

Robert
