Odd softethervpn problem

Post by er1k » Thu Aug 26, 2021 9:57 am

Hello!

Setup:
Single virtual server, SecureNAT and Virtual DHCP enabled. OpenVPN server functionality is also enabled. Version 4.29 (Build 9680), 64bit.

Problem:
First I was unable to upgrade softether server, but later I realized once I stop softethervpn server process, it no longer works afterwards. Softether vpn client can connect to server and obtains virtual IP after authentication, but local networks are not accessible.

Steps to reproduce:
systemctl stop softethervpn
systemctl start softethervpn
After that local networks are not accessible for vpn clients. OpenVPN server functionality works (uses same virtual hub).

My uneducated guess is that there must be difference in running configuration and vpn_server.config in vpnserver folder. I have not edited configuration file manually, only with SoftEther VPN Server Manager utility in windows. Any ideas?

Turned out to be some leftover bridge, that was unused in current configuration (virtual hub offline, tap device in local bridge offline). No IP on that unused bridge, no routes through it, no idea really why it mattered, but getting rid of it made things work.
