Error Code 1

My friend and I are trying to connect to my created VPN, but my friend gets a constant Error Code 1 no matter what we do. Can anyone help?

You will need to provide more information if you expect the members to help.

What is the OS of the SE server Host (windows, Linux)?
What VPN protocols are you trying to use( SoftEther, OpenVPN,L2TP/ipsec, MS-SSTP)?
What steps have you taken in regard to setting up the SE server other then installing the software?

The server is on a Windows 10 64-bit machine.
I have L2TP turned on, using the TCP/IP proxy type.
I've tried forwarding the ports I was using but it didn't work, turning off the firewall didn't work either.

I believe it is a basic error (that is why "1" ) = no port forwarding or no public ip address

connect directly server and client machines over LAN cable, from socket to socket, no need to go to internet

do not use symbolic names like "vpn.softeth3847.com" just write IP adress in numbers, for both server and client, then you must connect

like this:
server static adress 192.168.1.1

client static address 192.168.1.2 but in config softether use 192.168.1.1


if it is so, it would mean your server does not have port forwarding, or it is not on internet at all (no public address)
