Linux SE Server - Clients say PPP error during connection

Post by icdmike » Tue May 26, 2020 6:54 pm

I've installed SoftEther server on Ubuntu and I must be missing a configuration step. All clients (I've tested Windows10 SSTP and MacOS L2TP) give a similar error indicating "A connection could not be established to the PPP server." or "A connection to the remote computer could not be established".

Authentication seems to work, but something happens afterwards with PPP.

Does anyone have any pointers on what I could look for to fix this?

Thank you.

Did you activate the SSTP & L2TP/IPsec features on the SE-Server? Is there a firewall at the SE-Server Location? If so did you open/forward the proper ports to the SE-server Linux Host.

SELinux is disabled:
>sestatus
SELinux status: disabled

Firewall ports I've opened:
ufw allow 500/udp
ufw allow 1701
ufw allow 4500/udp
ufw allow 5555
ufw allow 1194
ufw allow 443

SSTP and L2TP/IPsec is configured. When I click "Manage Users", it shows the last login time for the account I'm testing as the correct time of the attempted login. I suspect this indicates successful authentication and that it got that far, but then the connection terminates.

Is there any other information I could provide that would help troubleshoot.
