"External server authentication" means that Password Authentication is improperly configured. Ensure that the SoftEther server is not configured for Domain, Certificate, or RADIUS authentication. Also ensure that the Windows SSTP client is not configured for EAP, not requiring a particular encryption level, and has the SoftEther certificate imported to the local machine store.

Keep in mind that things like AD GPOs can break the SSTP client, and that there may be an important error message in the Windows Event Log or in the Windows DUN Log (if enabled).
