OpenVPN mode cycling

Hi,
I'm trying to get a VPN working with a Microtik RouterBoard.
I've tried SSTP without success, it just sends (encrypted packets) but never connects.
However I've had some partial success with OpenVPN mode.
I get a connection but it keeps cycling.
The client (RB1100) says the remote disconnected.
The server (SoftEther on Linux) says the client disconnected.
1: How to I get more logging to see why the SoftEther caused a disconnection?
2: Why might SSTP be failing, how to debug.
Perhaps both are MTU issues?
