The PPP link control protocol was terminated [Solved, Thx]

Post by Hysterics » Tue Dec 24, 2013 9:28 pm

Hello.
First of all, what a great work of this project, its just awesome!
I Wanted to setup a VPN Server by myself on my home, but i had big troubles while doing this on my Fedora distribution...

The setup was fine, i created a account called "VPN" with a password of "VPN"
And the result while connecting was negative, it could not connect at all, after reading alot, i saw that the firewall was the cause of this, so i disabled it, and it worked, i could make connection, but... not for long...

It says connecting
Then it gives me a error
Error 734: The PPP link control protocol was terminated
I am trying to connecting locally btw.

I have opened many ports, but they all gave me noting (its still open)
What should i do next ?
oh and i did the small test with TrafficClient and TrafficServer, and those was positive!

Any help will be great!

You did not say when it happened: during connection or after success?

Hi, it happends during the connection.
on the setup, all what i did was;
Created first a hub with name vpn
btw, when i enter hublist, i get this;
------------------------------------------------------
VPN Server/vpn>hubList
HubList command - Get List of Virtual Hubs
Item |Value
------------------+-------------------
Virtual Hub Name |vpn
Status |Online
Type |Standalone
User |1
Group |1
Session |0
MAC Tables |0
IP Tables |0
Num Logins |0
Last Login |2013-12-23 16:54:05
Last Communication|2013-12-23 16:54:10
Transfer Bytes |3,960
Transfer Packets |12
The command completed successfully.

VPN Server/vpn>
------------------------------------------------------
Then after that i created a group called vpn, Grouplist command;
VPN Server/vpn>Grouplist
GroupList command - Get List of Groups
Item |Value
-----------+-----
Group Name |vpn
Full Name |vpn
Description|vpn
Num Users |1
The command completed successfully.

VPN Server/vpn>
------------------------------------------------------
then i created a user with his name VPN and pass VPN
after that i also enabled IPsec/L2TP, by using IPsecEnable
and the result of IPsecGet:
------------------------------------------------------
VPN Server/vpn>IPsecGet
IPsecGet command - Get the Current IPsec VPN Server Settings
Item |Value
---------------------------------------------------+----------
L2TP over IPsec Server Function Enabled |Yes
Raw L2TP Server Function Enabled |Yes
EtherIP / L2TPv3 over IPsec Server Function Enabled|Yes
IPsec Pre-Shared Key String |PasswordTest
Name of Default Virtual Hub |vpn
The command completed successfully.
------------------------------------------------------

I hope its more clear now,

thanks

Hello Hysterics!
Can you use SoftEther Server Manager for Windows to check all configuration?

pff, i really dont wanted to fix on that way...
Why is everyone doing this on Windows anyway, its also supported for UNIX like systems, and no documents are there, only how to install, not how to configure it...

pff, welll i have no choice then, i will do it...

And you didn't say where do you try connect from?
Windows l2tp built-in client?
Did you use this manual?

Hello,
i have installed the server on a Windows 7 machine, but i have found something very odd...
There were 2 Virutals hubs, one called DEFAULT and one VPNGATE (when using the relay funtion)
I tried to login with the default name from the VPNGATE and it worked, but when i create new user it doesnt work at all, it gives me error from the client-side, while all setting are the same.
What should i do now?

i just know right now that linux was not the problem.. :)

In which virtual hub have you created new user? VPNGATE?
Why don't you try connect to DEFAULT virtual hub? )
Use not VPNGATE hub)

BTW, do you know that you have to specify virtual hub name in login:
user@hub )

thats a bit weird, why should i do this, while i did not used this on the VPNGATE hub?

oh and i have removed the VPNGATE hub, and only DEFAULT is left, i made a user ''vpn'' with the exact same settings on the VPNGATE hub, but i can not connect...
strange huh?

Hi
As you know, in the windows-version there is a button with it says "VPN Gate Setting"
When you press that button, you get some text like "Join the VPN Gate Acadmic Research Project?"
And then there is a checkbox that says "Enable the VPN Gate Relay Service and Join the VPN Gate Research as a Volumteer" that makes your vpn server visible to the website

I want to do this on the linux side, but so far, noting found...

Hm, just have connected to linux version. You are right.
So, all public servers on vpngate.net are windows...
I think it is inpossible on linux without manual adding record to site's db.
I think the reason of it is better support and work on windows platform.
