SoftEther shows as connected but I'm not connected and my IP has not changed! Any advice as to how I can fix this issue will be highly appreciated.

Please confirm that your virtual network adapter has been assigned an IP address.

I do get assigned an IP. The SoftEther program and my connection icon show connected.

If you see the IP address in network "169.254.0.0/16", it is not an IP address which assigned by DHCP server.
It is a link-local address.

Please confirm that your default-gateway is set to a router over the VPN.

The IP address I get assigned is 10 211 1 36
I believe that's a US based IP address, but I click on the Japan based host.
I can provide you with any exact info that might help resolve this issue.

It seems there are no problem in assigning an IP address.
"10.*.*.*" is private IP address domain used in virtual hub.

Please check the default-gateway of your OS set on the virtual network.
If you use a Windows OS, you may be able to see routing table with "route print" command.

Subnet Mast: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 10.211.254.254

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Connenction-specific DNS Suffix
IPv4 Address: 192.168.2.104
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

If there are multiple default-gateways in a system, the Windows uses one which have least value in interface metric.

In default setting, interface metric of virtual network adapter is set to 1.
But it may have been changed for some reason.
Please confirm a interface metric of the virtual NIC smaller than the other NIC.

They were both set to Automatic. I changed the Interface Meteric to 1 and 2 making sure the one for VPN is the lower of the two. It didn't make a difference.
I'm making the changes on IPv4. IPv6 is set to automatic and connectivity shows limited.

I don't know how to repair your situation.

Can you ping to the default gateway on VPN?

Just lost connection again! I think it may be the government restrictions that are effecting the system.
