Android VPN client not connect (also iOS)
Hi, I live in Thailand and want to connect my android device (and iOS actually) to VPN server. At a moment, I still could not connect my android device to VPN server yet.
For the server, I think my setting should be ok because I can connect VPN client from my PC to this VPN server.
Can anyone suggest me what I did wrong? I sent attached files for your consideration. Really appreciate all comments on this one.
Device Information:
My VPN server is Windows 8.1 (tried with Windows7 also doesn't work)
Softether VPN 4.13, Build 9524
Android 4.4.2, iOS 8.1.3
User: trial
Password: abcd1234 ( I believe I put it correctly both in VPN server and Android)
Pre-shared key: vpn
Android doesn't show any error, just disconnect later. In iOS device, it shows "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your administrator"

Re: Android VPN client not connect (also iOS)
Hi, thanks for all suggestion.
Now my Android is working to access my VPN server. Actually my previous setting is correct (I hope).
What I have to do is to forward port 500 & 4500 on my server PC. You can see from attached file that I forward port 500 & 4500 to my private IP of my VPN server (192.168.1.35). Just this step, I can make my Android access to VPN server.
However, I can do this because my internet has public IP address. If I don't have public IP address, can I do this?

Re: Android VPN client not connect (also iOS)
Hi,
Hope it's not too late for my answer. Let me answer you one by one.
Q1: why do I have to open ports when the guide says there is no need?
Answer: I also understood as you did before. You don't need to open port if you're using Softether VPN Client connects to Softether VPN Server. But if you want to use L2TP or Android/iOS connecting to Softether VPN Server, port forwarding is necessary. It's indicated in its manual. You can see in the last portion of below link.

Q2: VPN Azure doesn't work with Android/iOS device.
Answer: It's correct. Please let's take a look on below photo again.

VPN Azure is one of Softether VPN Protocol (the most left side, green color). You can see that green color supports only Linux and Windows, but not for Android/iOS device. If you want to use Android/iOS device, you have to use either L2TP method or OpenVPN (which still need port forwarding).
I answer from my understanding and my test along over 1 month of failure. Hope it helps you to understand more. If there's any mistake, I have to ask your apology in advance.
