RSTP not working

Post by sanketgroup » Thu Nov 17, 2016 10:57 am

Hello
Network cable is going to my 24 port managed switch from my bridge PC, so all other clients on that 24 port can connect to other side server on layer2.

This 24port switch is RSTP enabled, but the port#17 on which softether PC is connected is not able to detect RSTP.
Is there any special settings needs to be done on SoftEther in order to use RSTP?

Thanx

Can you elaborate more on what are you trying to achieve?

This "SoftEther PC". Is this a server or a client?

How to did you verify that the remote switch can't recognize the root bridge ?. Also, what is the brand of your switches ?

There are two ways to verify.

1. Port on which SoftEther bridge is connected, showing it as designated port.
It shall be Alter Port or Root Port.

2. Check Root Bridge ID in switch

Just to confirm, on same port if i remove SoftEther Bridge and plug in another CAT6 coming from other side switch, that it surely shows that port as Alternate port. So it just something with SoftEther.

I am tried with many switches. Netgear, Cisco, Mikrotik

Try to enable STP on the bridge that you've created between the servers and local switches.

On Linux, you have to create the bridge yourself and enable STP on it. Check out this link : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Networking (it's for Ubuntu dist).

The same concept is applied.. search for enabling STP on the bridge that connects the SE adapter to your physical LAN.

Why i need to create bridge?
It is being managed by SoftEther Bridge.

I also looked at SoftEther Site-to-Site Server and Bridge instruction.
It does not say anywhere to create Windows Bridge.

Two LAN ports on BridgePC are not bridged by windows method.
But still connection works.

So i do not understand why Windows Bridge is needed?

Windows Bridge is needed because there may be you can enable STP settings (: while you can not do it with SE bridge (:.

So apart from STP, does it really require to Bridge two adapters in windows?
(method as you gave in previous post?)
I thought Windows bridge is not required as SoftEther software manages that thing.

Because in my current settings, i have never bridged these two ports with that method, but still all traffic coming from 1 port is going out to other 2nd port also.

I would like to suggest this : create a tap device and bridge that tap device to the virtual hub (SE side) and then create another bridge but this time on Windows, create a bridge between the physical interface and the tap device and enable STP on the Windows-bridge settings.
