This is my setup. I know that my shared vps is hitting the cpu limit as I can see it will push around 70mbps of traffic at 95% cpu. My bottleneck seems to be the CPU.
VPS: Intel Xeon L5639 2.13Ghz
Securenat with l2tp/psk
I can get up to 250mbps upload from my server if I don't use any vpn.
Any suggestions on how to improve the performance? Or I might have to get another server with a higher clockspeed or a dedicated node.
What throughput are you getting?

I switched to local bridge. Now getting 100mbps and also max out the cpu. Looks like I'm going to have to get a better VPS with more cores and higher clockspeed.

I think you need to change the encryption algorithm and use native softether vpn client to decrease CPU resources. for 70Mbps i am hitting 33% cpu resources with once core only (using AES128-SHA).
