Unable to "see" resources on server

I have set up Softether VPN server and clients numerous times and not had this problem before.

A little LAN; server is a Windows 10 Home PC, and the 4 clients are all Windows 10 laptops.
In the office all machines can access a Filemaker database on the server with no problems, so not a permissions problem
When the laptops are taken off-site they can connect to the server with softether VPN but can't even ping it let alone see the database.

The Windows 10 Home PC doesn't assign addresses vas no DHCP so static IP addresses in the same subnet are manually assigned to the virtual network adapters in each of the laptops.
I have set LMhosts on all 4 laptops referencing the server.
I have checked Firewall exceptions and other security software on the server.

Despite SE VPN saying that it is connected I cannot even ping the server either by IP or by NetBIOS name.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what else might be blocking or stopping access?

How did you connect the virtual hub and the LAN?
