Linux or Windows Server 2016 on Amazon EC3?

Post by Gallifrey » Tue May 29, 2018 11:13 pm

Which gives better performance on an Amazon VM, the linux install or Windows Server 2016 (ec3)?

I've been unable to get bridging working with a single and after adding a second network adapter on Window Server 2016 on an Amazon EC3 instance when connecting from the native client on iPhone and Mac (my goal). It only works with virtual NAT enabled.

On Linux I've read success where bridging can be accomplished with a TAP interface using DNS MASQ and am wondering if this gives better performance than virtual NAT on Windows Server 2016? (which cannot bridge to a TAP device). The wikis say that Softether is built on Windows and t is the best OS for performance with Linux second.

Thanks for the advice!

Connecting VPN client to the localhost itself is logically same as localbridge to TAP.
