connected once and only once

Post by frustrated » Mon May 28, 2018 1:34 am

So I've spent hours and hours trying to get Softether working on a client's network with no success at all. Was hoping for a site-to-site LAN but will settle for one vpn client that can access a shared folder on the server.

Eventually got so frustrated that I installed 425 9656 on one of my own machines as a server and another machine on the same LAN as a client but connecting out over the internet.
It connected once, received an IP address, and then NEVER connected again.
The server now can't even connect when first started.
This is with both Windows firewalls turned off for testing and port 5555 forwarded on the router to the internal address of the server.

Probably the most frustrating experience in recent memory.
Pretty familiar with networking, been configuring routers and firewalls for about 20 years and actually helped to develop what, at the time, was one of the largest VPNs in the world at 40,000 users.

What am I missing here?

I can't understand your network configuration.
If you specify the global IP address for the destination of VPN session, please confirm that your router has hairpin NAT function.
