Can't ping local TAP interface IP address on SoftEther server

Post by t9false » Mon Feb 12, 2018 12:04 pm

...but the connection is working fine. As in, vpnclient successfully connects to vpnserver and is able to communicate with it both ways, except ICMP ping.

Steps I've taken on vpnserver:
1) hubcreate testhub1
2) bridgecreate testhub1 /device:test1 /tap:yes
3) usercreate tuser1
4) userpasswordset tuser1 password

on vpnclient (this was an already working configuration, fully tested with a previous instance of vpnserver):
1) niccreate nic1
2) accountcreate tvpn1 /server:${vpnserver} /hub:testhub1 /username:tuser1 /password:password

At this point the "accountlist" on vpnclient and "sessionlist" on vpnserver both show me the active connection "Status: Connected".
Then I've manually set the IP address on both ends:
vpnserver: ifconfig tap_test1 192.168.10.1/24
vpnclient: ifconfig vpn_nic1 192.168.10.10/24

Now I can ping 192.168.10.10 from 192.168.10.1 no problem, but not the other way around. 192.168.10.1 can't even ping itself from a local console. Otherwise everything works fine: 192.168.10.10 can connect to 192.168.10.1 via ssh and other ports.

dmesg is empty. Either something went wrong on a rather low level (bridging maybe?) or I need to alter SoftEther settings.

Either way, any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Please check that the vpnclient is configured not answering ping or there is same IP address host in the same LAN.
