I am quite new to SoftEther VPN. My question is just about basics and what hardware I must rent as first.

Let's assume I am installing SoftEther VPN successful. But from where I get IPs?

Must I buy different lot nodes by a company like DigitalOcean? Do I get IPs like that?

Pls, advise me on that basic level.. where/how most cheaply obtain IPs

I want standard Remote Access VPN type....

1. Remote Access VPN
Remote access VPN allows a user to connect to a private network and access its services and resources remotely. The connection between the user and the private network happens through the Internet and the connection is secure and private.

Remote Access VPN is useful for business users as well as home users.

A corporate employee, while traveling, uses a VPN to connect to his/her company’s private network and remotely access files and resources on the private network.

Home users, or private users of VPN, primarily use VPN services to bypass regional restrictions on the Internet and access blocked websites. Users conscious of Internet security also use VPN services to enhance their Internet security and privacy.

I believe what cedar is asking is what is your intended use case. Softether can accomplish many things. When you say standard remote access vpn, do you mean that you have a server built already and are now wanting to connect to it? Are just using the softether client and want to know where to point it?

I am not sure what you are talking about with IP's, so here is some generic IP based information that might help you know what to ask us.

Lets use your assumption that you have installed a softether vpn server. This server probably has a network interface that has pulled an iP address from your router which is running a DHCP server for that purpose. Your router also has pulled an IP address from your ISP for access to the internet. Lets say you now want to connect to that server from outside of your home network, you would need to know your routers WAN interface IP address, and have port forwarding configured, pointing towards your softether vpn server.

So your question from where you get IP's is some funky terminology. IP's are basic addresses for network interfaces, one does not usually just go out and buy an ip address. Most of the time they are automatically assigned by your ISP unless you are paying for a static ip. You can get around that limitation by using a dynamic DNS service, and just your luck, softether actually has one built in. This makes it so you don't have to memorize your ip for the day in order to connect, just use the domain name that gets automatically updated with your new ip from the softether server.

You shouldnt have have to purchase anything to use softether at a basic level. I personally use a dydns service to utilize the vpn server on my own home internet.

The only case where it makes sense is if you want to buy a domain name of your own choosing to utilize with softether. But even then, you are buying a domain name, not an IP.
