As stated in the documentation, you don't need to install the SoftEther VPN Client on Windows 8 client machine. I did that at first but I wasn't able to connect my Windows 8 machine. I even tried changing the VPN connection properties manually in the "Type of VPN" and set it to "SSTP (Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol)" but I still cannot connect. Disabled my ANTIVIRUS but it's still the same.
Installed the SoftEther VPN Client and immediately I got connected without much effort. Hope this issue can be addressed by the authors as stated in the SoftEther VPN documentation. Any other troubleshooting suggestions on this issue?

Have you configured SoftEther server in some way?
When you don't like the answer, change the question.

Be aware that for SSTP you need to have a valid SSL certificate on the server side which also on client side can be validated against the CA-root authority or, as an alternative, is installed as a self signed certificate on the client.
I did not try it, but in vpn server you can export the server certificate ...
L2TP is a much more easier to use protocol, it needs no certificates.
